I would avoid the "bakelite" versions, which is the Chinese mistranslation for ABS plastic. The "ebonite" ones should be good. Every ebonite item I've purchased from the Chinese has been fine quality hard rubber.

I'm also very interested in the Chinese nomenclature regarding clarinet materials. Contrary to your findings, I have seen what appears to be ABS plastic bodied clarinets under the auction title listing of "ebonite". Not saying you're wrong Windy, just that the term may be very 'loose' amongst different ebay sellers from China.

When I see a little Eb clarinet listed as "ebonite" for $89.99, I have to assume it's just ABS. Looking forward to your thoughts on this!

(I can post an auction link if needed.)

Awesome, keep us posted on how the little runt cleans up!

Reviving this to prevent unnecessary new posts  :D

My question is . . . . does a small "hairline" crack automatically mean a leak?  I can post a pic but just can't imagine any air getting through it as it is.

Did the B&H Regents have the pot metal key work?

Looks great!   Are the method books available in English?

Make and Model lists and research / Re: Donut key on 1920 Buffet Bb?

The 1920's were all about "Bling".  Gold plated saxophones with full pearls, elaborate engraving, etc.

Clarinets never had that opportunity. The donut key was about as Blingy as it got. I could be wrong though.  ;)

Maybe it was a way to make seating pads more difficult.

Dave's answer is better though!

Reviving old topics is fine. Any forum activity is a good thing.

The search function for this forum works very well. I just searched for "scuba" and sure enough, Tom's post was the first result.

I quit my rock band today. Going back to my clarinets. Every single one of 'em!

For sure. If I ever switch to plastic reeds, it will be Lègére for sure.

Staying with cane as long as still grows though . . . . .

Yeah Dave.

Either that was a good old fashioned bidding war or we have to re-think the value of antique clarinets.

Good for you Dave!

I've been stuck on alto sax (happily).  :)

Wow, that looks good!  What key is that in? I know nothing about these . . . .

Well, this is different. Just like other instruments he has dreamed up!
