These "Black Hole" C clarinets are from China, reborn in my New Mexico workshop. I was happy playing the renowned Ridenour C (that I fine-tuned). I bought one of these out of curiosity. I was amazed .. it's a BETTER instrument!

Workmanship is good. The keywork is strong. Pads are Lucien kid leather. HOWEVER numerous defects and mis-tunings beg for attention. I spend about 6 hours refining each instrument, based on accumulated experience, recorded data, and fine tooling.

For half the price of the Ridenour C, you get a horn that is more in tune (especially Thumb-Bb and trills), with much better keywork and a better fit to large hands. The tone is exquisite, a bit better than the Ridenour that I had.

Warranty from me is 1 year / trial period 14 days.  Specify if player has Small or XL hands.

Use your favorite Bb mouthpiece, and enjoy the musical liberation of playing a C instrument!

PHOTO 1 shows a work log that I keep on each instrument. A pitch graph shows the original mis-tunings. As I correct them, I also smooth out the response of each note.

I am deciding how many more C clarinets to order, so I can have some more Black Hole refined instruments for sale. I'd prefer to bypass eBay! Anyone interested in getting one in about 2 months, please contact me: windydankoff@mac.com

Feedback from my fourth delivery:

"I love this clarinet - easy to play and great sound and does not have the problems people talk about with C clarinets.  I am guessing there a lot of people who would like a C clarinet so you should be able to sell a lot of these.  If you can keep this standard up, I will be glad to give you a customer reference any time you need one."

I just received two more C clarinets from China. Obviously SOMEONE is watching over the product, because many of the dimensional faults have been corrected. So now, I can prepare the instrument with LESS than the previous 6+ hours of work. That means I can sell 'em for less than the previous $600, with the same fine-tuned result. Inquire if interested.

PHOTO 1  "trill" keys are re-tuned for accurate B and C, so they can be used as primary fingerings. The B pad shows a bit of cork glued on. This lets me sand it to fine-tune after it's back on the horn (saves work). It also helps to balance the flattening effect so we don't lose the side-Bb tuning. And, it damps an otherwise loud B.

PHOTO 2  Custom work on Left pinkie (L4) keys, trimmed back to fit a man with extra-large (XL) hands.

Sorry about the HUGE pictures above (dust and all). Here they are again, sized down.

Beautiful work! Hey, anyone who wants a C clarinet, I recommend Windy's work. I've tried one that he worked on. And that was before he refined the process to what it is now.

I hope you get orders Windy. These are GOOD.

Phil - Many thanks for your review of my refined C clarinet.

Wow! You wrote "This is about as good as a C clarinet can get!"  I"m honored  :-)   So please, if readers are interested, contact me for more information. I still sell them for $600 with 2-week trial and 1-year warranty.  They are holding up very well too.

I gave one to my granddaughter last year. At age 9, she could just cover the holes. She got a head start with this instrument that's 9% smaller than a Bb. Here is a picture I took last night, playing "Over the Rainbow" quite nicely. This is a screen shot from our lesson via Facetime.
