Help with finding info on maker of "LIRA" Paris France Clarinet
« on: January 26, 2020, 04:12:24 PM »
Have a Clarinet from my Grandfather that I believe he purchased in Chicago long time ago with the markings "LIRA" Paris France on every section and no other markings. This "LIRA" is not on the mouth piece but each individual sections of the Clarinet indicating the maker or model.

I can not find any information at all on this maker or LIRA model name, any help would be appreceitated.

Can provide pictures if needed.

Thanks in advance

Welcome!!

Are there are any markings at all? Serial number, "Made in France," or anything?

From a distance I might say Thibouville but the other guys should be able to narrow it down further.

At least we can be about 99% sure it was made in the 1940-1960 range.

There are no other markings other than "LIRA" in parentheses followed by Paris France on each part of the Clarinet.

I had added pictures and not sure why they are not showing but here are 2 more showing the markings, these are on every section.

Looks like the metal rings have a relatively unique design, I can go through my archive and see if I see anything close

The rings and key work look just like an M. LaCroix I have.  The LeCroix however has Made In France at the top of the upper joint and the serial number at the top of the lower joint.  Bell and barrel only contain the M LaCroix logo.  Past debates have figured this was a Thibouville stencil.
