Introduction

Hello, I dont know if there is already a thread for this on here, if there is I hope nobody gets angry... I'm making my formal introduction here. I was a band geek in school I was mostly in percussion and switched to Trumpet my senior year. Recently I stumbled upon a great deal on a clarinet in a thrift store which I snagged up. I'm getting
Into the clarinet which I find to be quite a bit interesting. I Hope to pick up plenty of advice and info from everyone.

People here are mellow. I suppose if you were to accidently post in the wrong forum topic, the Admins here could simply move it. Since you are introducing yourself, what you state here seems very reasonable.

I'm making my formal introduction here. I was a band geek in school I was mostly in percussion and switched to Trumpet my senior year. Recently I stumbled upon a great deal on a clarinet in a thrift store which I snagged up. I'm getting into the clarinet which I find to be quite a bit interesting. I Hope to pick up plenty of advice and info from everyone.

Nothing wrong with moving from a percussion and brass background to give a woodwind a try. We, at least myself is a band geek. My father was a high school teacher. I had to come an hour before class, stay an hour after class. I spent those hours practicing my clarinet, later also alto sax and oboe.

Come graduation from a rural Hawaiian high school, all my buddies are joining the military services back in 1972. So I decided to check things out, too. Army recruiter told me I was qualified for any enlisted job, asked me what I wanted to do. I asked him about band. He picked me up, drove me to the 264th Army Band, Honolulu, Hawaii. I auditioned on the clarinet, passed the audition.

3 weeks later I was on a plane to Fort Ord, Monterrey, California for basic training as a Clarinet Player, secondary in Sax. Finished my first hitch, used the G.I. Bill and got a technical degree. Continued in the Reserves in several Reserve/Guard Bands, got vested for Reserve retirement with 21 years, took it at age 60.

Got an interesting story on Berg Larson mouthpieces while with the 25th Infantry Division Band, Schofield Barracks Army Base, 35 miles from Honolulu:
