The Jean Dumont clarinet I  have just reviewed plays just as well as the Rene Dumont clarinets that I have reviewed. This means that it has very nice intonation.

Despite the nickel plated key work, which is actually very functional and more durable than many nickel plated keys although a bit clumsier than a pro clarinet, the MF stencils can be very good and easy playing clarinets. I played an unbranded MF blank clarinet for a year and a half and it is now in another players hands and she reports that it is far better than the clarinets she played in school.

So many of these have a leading "H" in the serial and the shapes of the keys are dead give aways as is the high quality of the usually very dark black grenadilla. This was a company that guaranteed their wooden clarinets against cracks. They seem to me to be a little heavier in the wood, perhaps milled a little thicker for durability? I think these would still be very good beginner to intermediate instruments and they are very good candidates for restoration. I certainly enjoyed learning on mine and got the value out of it before passing it along still in excellent playing condition.  :)
