All about Clarinets / Buffet B18
« on: June 16, 2021, 10:12:58 AM »
My brother found a Buffet B18 at a pawn shop and decided that I needed it. I really don't, but it was very nice of him. I can't find much on it. A couple of short Amazon reviews, someone saying it is the Australian B12, and a couple of widely varying in price ads. I do not think it is a valuable treasure, and I really prefer quirky old old wooden clarinets, but I would like to know more about it. Anyone know anything?

All about Clarinets / Searching for a new "seat"
« on: July 08, 2017, 07:53:59 PM »
As many of you know, I play in a horseback band. I have ridden many horses in it over the last 32 yeras, but the time has come to find a new one. In the past, we had several at home to choose from. I am now down to one and he has a bad back now.

Let me tell you, a good "seat" is hard to find and is a scary business.

All about Clarinets / "New" Penzel-Mueller in A
« on: January 14, 2017, 06:19:51 PM »
Here's a couple of pictures, anyway. It needs more repair than I could ever do, so I will have to save a up for a bit and wait to actually play it.

It has to be about the dirtiest clarinet I've seen. My fingers were gray after touching it. The upper bridge key is gone, unfortunately. No cracks or other damage I can see.

All about Clarinets / Adding attachments

I would love to show you my new Penzel-Mueller enhanced Boehm clarinet in A, but my files are too large. I can't remember how to change that, evidently, and when I check to see if it acceptable, it freezes the forum and I have to close out. I have a new computer since the last time I tried and it has changed the "how-to".

Ideas before I get violent?

All about Clarinets / Conn ID
« on: September 07, 2016, 08:39:47 PM »
My neighbor just bought a clarinet at a second and store. It is grenadilla. Nothing wrong other than the pads are getting old. It is a Conn with only one small Conn mark on the upper tenon. No gilt or fancy anything. The numbers stamped on the back are 424N22103V. I assume that makes it a 424N model, made 1937 to 1954, I think. The serial does not match anything reasonable. 22103 puts it at 1911. 22103? puts it at 1970. No serials end in letters.

I have some photos, but I am too tired to fight the phone and computer to let you see them at the moment. It has a very unusual middle tenon joint. It is built up to provide a "valley" for the bridge key to fit into and a clip on either side of the lower bridge. (A metal strip that turns around a screw at one end.)

Any ideas?

All about Clarinets / Wooden Saxophone Case
« on: July 26, 2016, 10:53:46 AM »
I know this isn't a clarinet case, but I just got this for sheer beauty. My son's alto needs a new case, so we will try it. Don't know what to do with it otherwise. Pet it?

It is extremely heavy. The zipper case is also custom.

It is a guessing game! I have no idea, myself. I will let you know next week.

All about Clarinets / Crab tools
« on: June 24, 2016, 08:41:53 PM »
Thought my husband would be home for dinner. I got big steaks for him and a pile of snow crab legs. (He is a contractor that works out of town.) Without him, I was left with a pile of expensive crab and no tools. Well, let me tell ya, clarinet repair tools make darn fine crab pickers!
