All about Clarinets / Buffet B18
« on: June 16, 2021, 10:12:58 AM »
My brother found a Buffet B18 at a pawn shop and decided that I needed it. I really don't, but it was very nice of him. I can't find much on it. A couple of short Amazon reviews, someone saying it is the Australian B12, and a couple of widely varying in price ads. I do not think it is a valuable treasure, and I really prefer quirky old old wooden clarinets, but I would like to know more about it. Anyone know anything?

Mine is now fully restored thanks to the Vintage Clarinet Doctor. And he actually stills speaks to me, but it was touch and go for a while!

Congrats! I have one, too. Not the same model, though.

My odd-shaped clarinet is in a soprano sax case.

Mine is #1149.

Just FYI, I got a soprano sax case for mine. It fits pretty well. No way would it go in a Bb case.

Me, too. I just stopped.

Today, I decided I'd better fix a wobbly joint on the clarinet I actually play the most (which means not enough) or leave it unplayable. Broke into the toolbox, found a box cutter to get the cork off, and promptly stuck it into my thumb. Paused for first aid, came back, and found out my contact cement had hardened, and I can't put a cork back on.

Since I had practice, I grabbed another clarinet, drove to practice, and, of course, same problem, different clarinet. [[insert emoji of your choice here]]

I am trying to make myself use that extra key on my clarinets. I have arthritis in my left hand and my pinky locks. 40+ years of the usual fingering may not be possible to retrain, though. At least with as little as I play.
