Thanks for the feedback! It looks like it’s going back in the case. Lol
Better to spend the money on repadding some other projects.

It has been a few years since I started this thread, but I’m not one to give up! ;D
I decided to polish the old horn up and start digging again. I actually never quit, but researched less often. I did discover 2D engraved on both the upper and lower joints under the keys. I did post on a Facebook clarinet group asking about any info on the maker. A member posted that it was a Malerne stencil. I haven’t been able to find a malerne stencil with the double register linkage similar to this horn. There are  some other differences that I have also noticed. Not that the member is incorrect I’m just open to any other thoughts.
I’ll post a couple new pics

All about Clarinets / Conn 464N barrel length

Would anyone happen to have a conn 464N that they could verify the factory Barrel length? I have another Older version 464N that’s barrel is 61.7 mm. There a subtle differences between the two.  They are dated 1936 and a 1940. The 1940 is the overhauled one needing a barrel.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the input! Now I just need to get a mouthpiece for it. I think that an Eb in this condition is pretty uncommon. I’ve been keeping my eye open for something comparable, but haven’t seen anything.

Hello all,
I was going through some of my clarinets hidden from the wife in my closet stash and came across this little fella. The serial number is K42. Do you think this follows the published age charts? That would put it at 1896. Not sure when Carl Fischer started but I didn’t think it was that early. It is hard to see but it does say made in France. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Luckily I have never sold anything! LOL

Recently I took some out to get measurements and took this pic. My favorite is the Martin Freres 1860-1890 in the middle. Plays like a champ! I was building my new workbench because I was sick of working on them at my kitchen counter. My wife might have hated it a little also.  I am going to take a break from buying anymore, and really focus on the overhaul/regulating aspects of them. I am going to go over all of the ones I did when I first started, and try to fine tune them.

Just got this little guy delivered today. I'm sure that I paid way too much for it $175. But I really wanted a pre-pre R13/ or as it is rarely called not an R-13. I think I might just repad it and leave it at that. Seems to be well taken care of. has a crack on the bell, and barrel pretty insignificant.

Great point, I had searched for a key height standard to use as a starting point and could only find the Yamaha one. I found a lot of opinions but this was the only published standard that I came across. I have added it to the spread sheet, so once adjusted the value can be input and stored for future reference.

Was that the one that sold on the goodwill site?

I just built it in Excel. I realized I should put a spot for barrel length, and if its pulled out and by how much. And some where to type in notes. None of the E11's are going under the grinder. lol

I threw together this chart where you can input the pitch variations and it throws it onto a line chart. Ill make the chart show what pitch variation is between both notes that the tone hole shares.
Then I should ( huge should at this point) be able to determine if the tone hole would benefit from undercutting or some other physical manipulation.
All of this is beyond my abilities, but I'm going to experiment on an old beat up horn and give it a whirl. Since I am not an experienced player I'm still working on my embouchure to get consistent results. But I'm making progress.

If you guys have any ideas or thoughts on stuff to add, or something that might make it better let me know.

I just picked a Martin Freres made in France, Grand Prix,  Boehm serial #0112. Has anyone redone one of these? Or has any idea about manufacture year?
