All about Clarinets / Undercover by James Rae
« on: September 27, 2020, 12:42:33 PM »
A piece called Undercover from a book by James Rae. Someone posted the score for me on Facebook. I learned 2 new notes, F# and Eb. Previously I was playing F sharp by using the ring only on the F key at the back. But this way is simpler, just the first fingerhole, no thumb. I ordered the book, should be with me soon.

First draft of it as it were so its a bit rough.

All about Clarinets / Never on a Sunday
« on: August 25, 2020, 02:18:17 PM »
Never on a Sunday, a song I've come to love after first playing it on recorder. The dynamics of clarinet lend it that extra oomph.
Here's some facts about the song from Wikipedia
"Never on Sunday", also known by its original Greek title "Ta Pediá tou Pireá" ("The Children of Piraeus"), is a popular song written by Manos Hatzidakis and first sung by Melina Mercouri in the 1960 film of the same name.

All about Clarinets / Recorder/clarinet

A little piece called Dance Hither, in my alto recorder method book, first on alto recorder, and then on clarinet, which I haven't played in months!
I had to play the recorder part first, because if I go from clarinet (high pressure) to recorder (very low pressure) I find myself badly overblowing.

Anyone used to play the old computer game? Remember the music to it, from a Russian composer (Khachaturian?)

Here's my version.

Looking forward to when this coronavirus is over with, and though its warm and sunny out one must resist the urge to venture out, and just stay in and practice.

Dave's music video of the week / Imagine by John Lennon
« on: March 22, 2020, 10:34:54 AM »
My tongue-in-cheek take on Lennon's Imagine

Imagine there's no loo roll
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to wipe our butts on
No sanitizer too
Imagine all the people
Sneezing every day, achoo-ooo
You may say I'm a sneezer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will shake hands
And the world will be as one.

We need to keep practicing. Don't let coronavirus kill the music. And keep smiling

I've had this thing about 2 years now and I still can't play a tune properly on it. Beginners will struggle to get below low E. I can just about get D.
When I got my clarinet I was playing tunes within a week!

All about Clarinets / Bach on clarinet?
« on: March 19, 2020, 01:46:14 PM »
I suppose not many people play Bach on clarinet but, well, why not?
Played in memory of one of my tarantulas who died.
By the way, those who use Legere synthetic reeds, how do you wash them after playing? I've been running mine under warm water, then tissue drying.

All about Clarinets / Cheap synthetic reed v a Lègére
« on: February 20, 2020, 01:32:21 PM »
A while ago I got a cheap synthetic reed from Wish. It's not great. But was practically free.
Recently I bought a Lègére synthetic reed, strength 2 ½, definitely not cheap. But there's a huge difference!

Came across this. Looks a bit dodgy to me, even for a plastic instrument.
