What model Vito clarinet?
« on: October 10, 2016, 11:43:14 AM »
I've had a Vito clarinet since childhood and I don't know what model it is.
It has a Lyre logo on the upper joint and bell, and the serial number is B25970. I've looked all over it, but I don't see (or recognize) anything identifying the actual model. (The logo on the upper joint is almost completely worn away, so the model info might have been there but just worn off.)

According to the link I found on Vito page, that serial number was produced in 1974, but it lists seven different models. Is there a way to determine the model from the serial number?

Thanks!

Um, serial numbers are tricky and it would be hard to be certain unless known examples and their serial numbers were presented.

I don't really know of any such list floating around the net, but if other members here have plastic Vitos, then we might be able to formulate up a short list that may help.

I don't know if this is the answer, but I found the following in case anyone else has the same question.

Saxontheweb did a quick research and posted some links which no longer work, but said that the difference between the 7212 and 7214 is that the 7214 has a ring on the bell.

I also found this review on BandInstrumentsGuide.com and the picture of the 7214 looks just like mine (although the logos are nice and clear and mine are practically gone).

I haven't found much with good images or descriptions of the other models listed on the serial numbers list, but if I were to go by this, i would conclude that I have a 7214.

I work on and re-sell quite a few Vito's. The Big Lyre logo would most likely make it Pre-1980 or so but I can check the serial numbers.
Sometimes they have the model number on them, often not. If it is plastic and has the metal ring on the bell, most likely a 7214

Pics would help

Based on that serial number, it's looking like 1974
