my "Vito-Leblanc"(?) alto clarinet is on sale at Ebay
« on: May 04, 2017, 04:57:24 AM »
Hello all (and goodbye).  I've decided that it's time to hang up the holster--no wind left to play.  My Vito Leblanc  (?--serial number, 5015, doesn't match) resonite alto clarinet is listed on EBay (search "Alto Clarinet, Vito Leblanc, Resonite"--I can't get the hyperlink to work here);  there is a link there to a vimeo of me playing Ashokan Farewell (shows the    register change--not a performance that I'm proud of).   Included are a Hite mouthpiece (makes a lot of difference in the sound),  a good strap, a silk swab,  my  home-made support stand (4 inch pipe and toilet flange), and sterilized synthetic reeds, and unused cane reeds  (3.0), I'm willing to let it go for a  lot less than the "Buy it Now" price listed on Ebay to one of you guys if anyone's interested.  And, so long, it's been good to know you.

May she find as noble a caretaker as the present one.

Might I recommend a tenor (C) recorder? These are far lighter and take a lot less wind, make very soothing sounds.

Ashokan Farewell is also in my repertoire, albeit mostly I play a washtub bass on that one behind my most excellent concertina bandmate. You have given me ideas now about the tune. It sounds wonderful with the alto clarinet voice.

I love tenor recorder. I used to play it at church!

Thank you all for your kind words.   I'll take your suggestions about a tenor recorder to heart.   Heard some on Youtobe.   Great sound from some, not so great from others.   They look not too dear on Ebay or WWBW, so maybe I'll take some of the proceeds from the sale of the alto to get a tenor recorder.

A good, cheap starter is the plastic Yamaha:

I'd recommend getting one of these first, seeing how you like it, and then upgrading to a much more expensive pear wood (or something) one.

Congratulations on getting the Buy It Now price and I note that you, too, played on the Hite mouthpiece.  They sound oh so good on Altos.
The Clarinet Pages is where we answer the question: "Am I not a Clarinet and a Woodwind?"
