Buffet Eb Carl Fischer
« on: October 10, 2020, 07:14:50 PM »
Hello all,
I was going through some of my clarinets hidden from the wife in my closet stash and came across this little fella. The serial number is K42. Do you think this follows the published age charts? That would put it at 1896. Not sure when Carl Fischer started but I didn’t think it was that early. It is hard to see but it does say made in France. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Carl Fischer has been around since 1872, so 1896 is a perfectly reasonable date and I would see no reason to doubt it. Looks to be in very nice shape!

Sure looks like it. In fact, the lack of rollers on the lower stack keys might even indicate an earlier date.

But 1896 is absolutely reasonable and I see no reason to doubt it.

Thanks for the input! Now I just need to get a mouthpiece for it. I think that an Eb in this condition is pretty uncommon. I’ve been keeping my eye open for something comparable, but haven’t seen anything.

That looks nice. Is that normal keywork for an eefer? It looks odd compared to my modern Bb boehm
