Silver Penzel Mueller Clari-Met
« on: November 09, 2020, 05:09:09 PM »
I'm new to this forum and have just acquired a Silver Penzel Mueller Clari-Met that has a three digit serial number in the 400s. It is clean and seems to be in good shape for it's age. It has the original mouth piece, case and music lyre.   My research doesn't fine a lot about this instrument except that it is considered "rare" by some. How do I determine if it is actually a silver alloy horn? How do I know if it has a double wall? Any Idea what it's age may be given the three digit SN? In decent shape what might it be worth?

Thanks in advance for helping out a rookie.

There's a little bit of information on the Clari-Met at Silver-Clarinet.com http://www.silver-clarinet.com/ The Clari-Met is a double wall, is supposed to be silver alloy, and pre-1925-ish.
Pictures are always appreciated.

For its age it looks to be in excellent shape, I can't see any dings other then the small gauge in the barrel logo and the bottom key cup looks a little rough. From my understanding is that as far as quality goes it is if not thee best, it is ranked top 5 metals ever made. It should clean up nicely.
I have heard that if they are damaged and you need to get it repaired, it is going to cost you. I would recommend being gently with it.
Only happy mistakes here.

I cleaned it up a bit with a Blitz Cloth, some Wright's silver polish and some Q-tips.

Price is high, but about right for this. If you get an offer for $1800 i'd take it
