Free sheet music?
« on: November 13, 2020, 03:23:21 PM »
Anyone know where I can get free sheet music? How long is it before a piece becomes public domain?
I want to play Misty by Erroll Garner but I play by ear. So far I can play the main theme by listening to YouTube videos but I haven't got round to the second phrase yet. Having it on sheet would make sure I'm playing the right notes.

There are some places I've seen that give you a taste but charge for the rest. I have found a few places that have some selection of more popular free stuff. You can try:

8notes.com

This place has some freebies but if you want to shell out about 50 bucks or so it seems you can get a ton of sheet music. 4 CDs full.

Only happy mistakes here.

Ah I used to use 8notes but it is riddled with spam now, terrible site.

Find out how to take a screen shot on your computer (search it). That way if you come up with an image on your screen, you can print it even if it is not intended for print. I've "scored" some good songs that way.

Yes I do screen shots a lot (I'm a phone user, very rarely do I use a PC)

search for "lead sheet" rather than "sheet music".  And try to find one for Bb instruments.

Clarinet Institute of Los Angeles. Copyright-free solos & books of all levels/styles.
I too do basically nothing on 8notes-- Nobody ever posts.
Lots of stuff also on Sheet Music Plus but not free. Some solos in the range of $2-$5.
