I was cleaning my new/old HR mouthpiece with a dettol antibacterial cloth, which after cleaning was yellow, which I wasn't expecting. I also cleaned the inside with a cotton bud (Q tip) coated with alcohol based hand gel and it too turned yellow.

Alcohol will ruin Hard Rubber in a heartbeat. I learned that the hard way by turning a nice HR silver throat's bell into a sickly greenish yellow.

To clean hr, I would go with mild soap and COLD water. Warm water will also discolor it. It's a very fickle mistress.

Although discoloration of HR does NOT damage playability, tone, or any physical qualities, it makes it look rather ugly and unattractive.

We all learn the hard way. I am saddened, but also happy that you have learned your lesson. I learned it HARD with that lovely Silver Throat and am extremely careful when bringing HR near any alcohol these days.
