Two Major and Minor Blues Licks
« on: March 24, 2021, 12:33:40 AM »
I thought it was about time I posted a video of some playing for comment / observations / tips etc

I'm a whisker under 10 months in on this journey. Amongst many other things, I'm working through a wonderful (non clarinet) book called The Blues Scale by Dan Greenblatt. It's slow going, not because it's difficult, but because I find it hard to memorise the licks in the book. Anyway, these are four licks I came up with being played over one of Dan's backing tracks.

Clarinet is a Noblet Artist 45 with a (loose!) Hite Premier mouthpiece and a Vandoren 2.5 reed.

Excellent, Derek! Great tone and subtle expression. Have you been playing other wind instruments?

Thanks Windy.

No, nothing else, other than 45+ years of picking a guitar in various styles.

I played the clarinet 50 years ago at school for a couple of years - never got more than half way through A Tune A Day book # 1. Took it up again in lock-down last June and have played most days since (and have just started A Tune A Day book # 2). When lock-down is eventually over my practice time is likely to reduce, so I've been pushing hard to get in as much progress as I can.

Hopefully I'll get to the stage where I can play a few blues and ballads and simple swing standards.

Regards
Derek

Good, intuitive phrasing.  Nice.  Thanks for that.
