Super cool! I love those integrated barrels clarinets. Can't imagine who had the bright idea for that.

I've seen them referred to in France as military style, so that seems as good an explanation as any.  Simpler, with less maintenance failure points. Tuning in a military marching band really not as critical as say, chamber music performances or orchestras.
