Original case for a Conn 446N?
« on: March 03, 2023, 04:14:12 AM »
Does anybody know exactly how the original case for a Conn 446N would have looked? And have a handy image of one? Mine has a rather annoying little case with catches that don't inspire confidence, and it isn't Conn branded. I would rather like to have an original, vintage case for it.

Would the 424N, 444N, 446N, etc, each have had different cases back in the 1940s?

I don't have an image handy, but it looks like the 446N and most of its counterparts of the era came with a formed (slim with a bulge for the bell) case, with two "Boston bag" style handles.

According to the catalogs, each model clarinet had a different catalog number for its case, but there's no indication of what would have been different.

Photos show an example of the type of case that was very common in the c. 1950 era. It was made by a Chicago company with a 3-letter abbreviation that I don't recall. Very possible it was the type of case that would have been supplied with your instrument.

If you wish to buy this one, send me a private msg. The handles were originally leather over rope. These are rope replacements.

Windy's is a good example.  Here is another in Conn's traditional Royal Purple.
