Odd LJ vent

What do you suppose this vent is for on the LJ?  A tuning hole, perhaps?

That’s the G/D tone hole, you cover it to play F/C. Unusual to see it as a metal tube but this is typical for “period” clarinets.

Thank you very much.  It does seem a bit odd to have a pip just hanging out there, and it looks a bit awkward to cover, but I will experiment with it.  It arrives tomorrow, and is my first true salt spoon.
I do have simple systems with offset lumps but have not seen this feature before.
