WTB: 3 screw thumbrest
« on: November 14, 2023, 07:58:16 PM »
I am in search of "3 leaf clover" style 3-screw thumbrest for a German/Czech/Austrian Eefer.

I would be most obliged if any of you might have one about or a lead on one.

OH boy, I definitely have one or three. If you still need one in about 6 months, I'll be back from deployment and can find one for you

Dave,
If you can lay your hands on them after your return (and THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your service, BTW) I'll take two, and name your price, because I am truly desperate.  I cannot bring myself to drill these old horns for another rest--i just can't.

Apparently, these were widely used by Couesnon and Henry Gunckel.  My Albert is unstamped, but belongs to Couesnon, I reckon, based upon keywork comparisons.

I feel you on hesitating to drill holes. I was once messing with a generic stencil of some sort with no thumbrest. I bought a 10-pack of aftermarket Chinese ones for fun, drilled a hole and....STRAIGHT through the bore. Oof.

It's not hard to do, but you definitely want to pre-drill, or that is a future crack waiting to happen.
Also, I try not to modify horns away from their original design, unless there is not another viable option.  I figure I could have a friend scan a good one, and make me one on his 3D printer.  There is an opportunity here for someone, I suspect.
