ABRSM Clarinet Grade 8 Piano Accompaniments
« on: January 04, 2024, 10:48:17 AM »
Hi

I'm new here so sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place.

My daughter is currently studying and working towards her ABRSM grade 8 clarinet.  We are trying to source piano accompaniments for the pieces she has chosen. ABRSM do not supply accompaniments for this grade. I've searched everywhere I can think online to no avail. I have spoken with a number of pianists local to us with aim of paying them for their time to make a recording for us, however all are the repertoire is too time consuming to learn.

ABRSM are being less than helpful.

I am at a loss to know what to try next. Any help advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The pieces are:
Francisco Gomez, Lorito Caprice
Richard Rodney Bennett, Ballad in Memory of Shirley Horn
Rachel Matthews, Listen Through the Rustling Leaves
Brahms, sonata for clarinet and piano, Allegro Appassionato

Thanks in advance

Gary

Seems like the Brahms one would be easy, if it is still published on it's own outside of ABRSM.
The rest would be dependent on the same thing, if the original composer wrote a piano part you might be able to get it.

It seems Brahms wrote more than one sonata for clarinet though, so it would help to have the opus number, or at least the key.

I found this, is it the right one perhaps?

Edit: I guess I misunderstood, you want a recording of the accompaniment parts?  I am a trumpet player, and I used to create MIDI piano accompaniments back in the day when I did stuff like that.  Maybe that is a possible alternative, pay someone for a digitized version.  That doesn't take any musical skill.  It tends to work better on pieces with fixed tempos.  You could probably do it yourself with any number of programs out there too.

There are two Brahms sonatas.
The piano parts are very difficult.
The clarinet parts are probably not as difficult as the piano parts.
You will probably need to purchase the parts for that.
I might be able to resurrect my copy of them.
I don't recognize any of the other pieces, which I find interesting. (My music career was so long ago!)
